ABOUT THE WEDDING

There's something magical about Lake Como, and this stunning pre-wedding celebration was no exception. This beautiful couple from the States brought their closest family and friends across the ocean to the iconic Villa Geno, where the serene lakeside views set the perfect stage for their most special moments. With Jewish traditions woven throughout the evening and an unforgettable energy of love and laughter, this celebration was nothing short of breathtaking. Capturing the emotions, joy, and vibrant atmosphere of their welcome party was a privilege I'll always treasure.

When I arrived at Villa Geno on the shores of Lake Como, I could already feel that this evening was going to be something extraordinary. The villa sat quietly against the glittering water, the mountains in the background turning soft and golden as the afternoon light began to fade. There's a reason couples travel from New York, from Tel Aviv, from across the world to celebrate their love here. Lake Como has this rare ability to make everything feel cinematic and intimate at the same time, and Villa Geno captures that spirit more beautifully than almost anywhere else on the lake.
This wedding couple had chosen Villa Geno not just for its beauty, but for what it represents. A place where time slows down, where the water laps gently at the stone walls and the air smells like late summer in Italy. They wanted their family and friends to arrive and immediately feel something. And they absolutely did.

The guests started arriving in waves, fresh off long flights and full of excitement. There were grandparents who moved slowly but beamed with pride, cousins who hadn't seen each other in years falling right back into old rhythms, and friends from college already taking in the view with wide eyes and drinks in hand. It was the kind of crowd that fills a room with noise and warmth in the best possible way. What struck me immediately was how quickly everyone settled into the space. Villa Geno does that to people. The terrace overlooking the lake became the natural gathering point, where toasts were made, stories were shared, and more than a few happy tears were quietly wiped away. I love these early moments at a welcome party because they're unguarded and completely real. Nobody is performing yet. Everyone is just genuinely happy to be there together.

Jewish traditions were woven through the evening in the most beautiful and organic way. The blessings before dinner felt deeply meaningful, spoken with intention and met with a quiet hum of recognition from guests who knew every word. There's something incredibly moving about watching a tradition travel across generations and across continents, landing in the Italian evening light at a villa on Lake Como and feeling completely at home. Then came the dancing. If you've ever been part of a joyful Jewish celebration, you already know what I mean when I say it is absolutely electric. What started as a few people moving together quickly became the entire room on their feet, arms around each other, laughing and singing. The energy shifted into something I can only describe as pure happiness. I was moving around the room trying to capture everything at once, and I remember thinking this was exactly why I became a photographer. These moments can't be scripted or staged. They just happen, and if you're paying close attention, you catch them.

As the evening unfolded, I found myself drawn to the quieter corners just as much as the big celebrations. The way the bride-to-be's mother held her hand during one of the toasts. The moment the groom shared a private joke with his best friend and they both nearly lost it mid-speech. An older relative sitting at the edge of the terrace, just watching everything with a quiet, full smile that said more than any speech could. These are the details that get lost when you rely on memory alone. A photograph holds them still. Twenty years from now, this couple will look back at these images and remember not just what Villa Geno looked like, but exactly how it felt to stand in that place surrounded by every person they love most. That feeling is what I'm always chasing as a photographer.

Why Villa Geno Is So Special for a Lake Como Wedding
If you're dreaming of a destination wedding or pre-wedding celebration in Italy, Villa Geno is one of those venues that earns its reputation completely. It sits right on the waterfront in Como, offering an effortless blend of historic elegance and natural beauty that is genuinely hard to find anywhere else on the lake. The terrace is spectacular for golden hour photography, the interiors are warm and full of character, and the setting means that every direction you turn as a photographer is already a beautiful frame. For Jewish weddings or multi-day celebrations with welcome parties, Villa Geno works wonderfully. It holds enough space for intimate family moments while also carrying the energy of a full, lively gathering. The combination of Italian scenery with deeply personal cultural traditions creates something visually stunning and emotionally rich, the kind of wedding content that tells a real story.
