If you close your eyes and imagine the quintessential Mediterranean wedding, you are likely picturing Altea. Known as the "Santorini of Spain," its whitewashed old town and iconic blue-domed church offer a backdrop that is unmatched on the Costa Blanca.
For this lovely Belgian couple, Altea wasn’t just a destination; it was a second home. To celebrate their love, they chose Finca Marqués de Montemolar, a 19th-century estate that perfectly captures the grandeur and romance of the region.
The Destination: Why Get Married in Altea?
Altea is a jewel on the Spanish coast, beloved by artists and romantics alike. For international couples, it offers the perfect mix of culture and coastal luxury.
The Old Town: The cobbled streets lead up to the famous Plaza de la Iglesia, offering panoramic views of the sea and mountains.
The Vibe: It is sophisticated yet relaxed, ideal for a multi-day celebration where guests can enjoy the beach by day and fine dining by night.
The Ceremony: Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo
The day began in the heart of the old town at the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo. This church is famous for its striking blue domes that dominate the skyline.
Inside, the Neo-Baroque architecture provided a dramatic setting for the vows. Exchanging rings here, surrounded by centuries of history, added a profound sense of gravity and emotion to the ceremony.
The Reception: Finca Marqués de Montemolar
After the ceremony, guests moved to the private estate of Finca Marqués de Montemolar. Perched on a hill, this venue offers exclusivity and versatility that is hard to beat.
The Gardens: The couple chose a rustic-elegant theme for their dinner under the stars. Long tables were set amidst the olive trees, creating an intimate, communal dining experience.
The Party: One of the Finca’s best features is its dedicated indoor space for dancing—meaning you can party late into the night without noise restrictions, a rarity in outdoor venues!
Capturing the "Altea Light"
As a luxury wedding photographer in Spain, the light in Altea is my favorite tool. It is bright, crisp, and vibrant. We took advantage of the golden hour to shoot portraits both in the charming streets of the old town and the lush gardens of the Finca. The contrast between the white walls, the blue sky, and the deep green of the estate created images that are vibrant, joyful, and timeless.
